Uruguay Court Orders 180-Day Pretrial Detention for Kidnapping Suspects

A dramatic turn of events unfolded in a recent kidnapping case. Three men, including the victim’s own driver, are now behind bars. The incident occurred on a Monday evening in Carrasco, around 6:30 pm.

Investigation and Charges

The three suspects face charges of robbery and deprivation of liberty. A judge ordered their preventive detention for 180 days as the investigation continues. Diego Pérez, the prosecutor in charge, is leading the case.

The victims – an 86-year-old woman and her 28-year-old driver – were parked in their van when the attacker struck. He threatened them with a gun and stole the woman’s jewelry, cash, and other belongings from her purse.

In a surprising twist, the driver is also a suspect. According to Javier Benech, Director of Communications for the Prosecutor’s Office, the driver allegedly played a role in the kidnapping. This new information raises questions about the events that transpired. The prosecutor’s office will continue to investigate to uncover the truth behind this express kidnapping.
