Windows 11 is having a hard time against Windows 10. This is not a new finding. But the latest development is likely to raise concerns for those responsible at Microsoft and may be a reason for the drastic advertising with which Microsoft is promoting the upgrade to Windows 11 even on computers that do not meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11.
Because according to Statcounter, Windows 11’s market share declined worldwide in March 2024! While Windows 11 had a 28.16 percent market share among all Windows operating systems in February 2024, in March 2024 it only had a 26.68 percent market share. Windows 10, on the other hand, improved from 67.26 percent in February 2024 to 69.07 percent in March 2024.
If you just look at the Windows market shares in Europe, this trend is confirmed. In Europe, Windows 11 reached 29.11 percent in February and 26.12 percent in March. Windows 10, on the other hand, increased from 67.48 percent in February to 70.76 percent in March 2024.
The market share of all Windows versions combined for operating systems (desktop and mobile/smartphones/tablets) remained almost unchanged during this period: In February 2024, Windows was running on 27.43 percent of all computers (in the broadest sense) worldwide and in March it was 27.39 percent. Android is the undisputed leader with 43.5 percent. The Microsoft operating system is a long way from the 95 percent market share that Windows once had in 2009. Given the triumph of smartphones and tablets since then, this is no surprise.

Statcounter is a well-known web traffic analysis website that has been measuring operating system market shares every year since 2009.
This is how you can use Windows 10 beyond October 2025
All Windows users, both corporate and private, can safely continue to use Windows 10 even after support ends in October 2025. Thanks to security updates as part of ESU. However, Microsoft charges dearly for support.
