Brewers shortstop and two-time club MVP Willy Adames was struck by a foul ball while leaning on the dugout rail during the second inning of Friday’s game between the Giants and Brewers at American Family Field and did not return to the field for the third.

Brian Anderson was leading off the bottom of the second inning for the Brewers when he hit a foul pitch, 90 mph off the bat according to Statcast, that appeared to hit Adames on the left side of the head. Adames retreated up the dugout steps to the bench and leaned on Brewers associate pitching, catching and strategy coach Walker McKinven as medical officials tended to him and Brewers teammates rose to their feet to form a wall around the scene.

After several tense minutes, Adames got up and walked down the tunnel toward the clubhouse. Brewers general manager Matt Arnold told Bally Sports Wisconsin’s Sophia Minnaert that Adames had left the stadium for further testing.

Anderson finished his at bat tearfully and grounded out to shortstop before rushing down the tunnel to check on his teammate. Anderson stayed in the game as the Giants came to bat in the next half inning.

It started with second baseman Owen Miller’s fielding error, followed Peralta’s throwing error in a comeback and included a run-scoring infield single that deflected off first baseman Mike Brosseau’s glove before second baseman Giants’ Brett Wisely hit a three-run home run that scored the goal. a 10-1 game and marked the end of Peralta’s night.
