Feyenoord Delays PSV’s Alirón in Eredivisie Title Race

Feyenoord Postpones the Alirón of PSV

Feyenoord dealt a blow to PSV Eindhoven’s hopes of clinching the Eredivisie title with a 1-3 victory against Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday. Despite the win, Feyenoord’s chances of becoming champions are now virtually impossible due to PSV’s commanding 30-goal difference and their nine-point lead with only three games remaining.

The match against Go Ahead Eagles proved to be a challenging one for Feyenoord, as their opponents are fighting for a European spot and put up a strong fight until the very end. Nevertheless, Feyenoord emerged victorious, securing three valuable points but also feeling the disappointment of knowing they cannot claim the title.

PSV Eindhoven, on the other hand, recently thrashed Heerenveen 0-8 and are now just one draw away from officially being crowned champions. Even if PSV were to lose all their remaining games and Feyenoord were to win theirs, PSV would still come out on top due to their superior goal difference. Furthermore, if there were to be a tie in goal difference, PSV would also prevail in the overall ranking of direct duels.

While fans of Peter Bosz’s team celebrated prematurely in the stands, the players must wait until next weekend for the title to be officially confirmed. A draw against Sparta Rotterdam or a slip-up from Feyenoord would be enough for PSV to secure the championship.

Meanwhile, Feyenoord fulfilled their duty against Go Ahead Eagles, with Jeffrey de Lange scoring an own goal and Luka Ivanusec adding another before the half-hour mark. Oliver Edvardsen managed to pull one back for the home team just before halftime, but Ayase Ueda sealed the victory for Feyenoord with a goal in the latter part of the second half, ensuring that PSV’s title celebrations would have to wait a little longer.
