In some countries, such as India or Brazil, WhatsApp has been allowing its users to send and receive money from their friends for more than a year for free. After activating a new chat payment shortcut to quickly send payments from the chat bar, Facebook-owned WhatsApp is working on another payment feature called “cashback”.

Indeed, according to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a cashback feature in a beta version of its Android app. For those who don’t know, cashback allows you to withdraw money after a transaction. Some merchants, for example, can reimburse you for part of the amount you have paid after paying by credit card. This practice has become very popular on the Internet in recent years.

WhatsApp wants to make money for its users

This new feature will allow users to receive a small fraction of the money they send as cashback. According to the beta version code, this feature could be released in India in the first place.. The value of the cashback will be 10 INR, or around 12 euro cents. This can be obtained 48 hours after a transaction.

At the moment, it is not known if this amount will be increased when the feature is launched. nor if it will vary depending on the amount of the transaction. Receiving just 12 euro cents per transaction might seem quite anecdotal to some users, but it’s already better than nothing. It is also questionable whether the cashback will only be available for new users of WhatsApp Pay or also for existing users.

WhatsApp Pay is only available in India and Brazil, and noWe don’t know when this feature could be rolled out in other markets.. We therefore do not expect to see the cashback arrive in France on the Facebook application for a long time. In the meantime, WhatsApp should soon roll out a transcription feature that allows you to read voicemail messages.
