The pontiff left in a wheelchair through the main door of the Gemelli hospital in Rome at 8:00 a.m. (6:00 GMT), where a few dozen people were waiting for him, in addition to the media.
The Pope, who smiled at all of them, was accompanied to the car by the surgeon who operated on his abdominal hernia, Dr. Sergio Alfieri.
