China warns its citizens to think twice before traveling to the US. The warning comes as economic and trade relations between the two countries hit a rough patch.
The Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism issued a statement on April 9, telling tourists to be careful when planning trips to the US. The ministry said the warning is due to growing tensions and security concerns in the US.
This warning follows a trade dispute between China and the US. China announced it will increase taxes on US imports by 50%. This move is in response to the US imposing similar taxes on Chinese goods.
China’s ministry emphasized that the warning is a result of economic and security tensions in the US. They want Chinese tourists to be cautious when planning their trips.
According to the Global Times, the US recently announced it will increase taxes on Chinese imports by 104%. China’s response is a countermeasure to the US’s earlier move to increase taxes on Chinese goods by 50%.
China had previously announced a 34% tax on US goods, leading to a series of retaliatory measures. China’s government condemned the US’s actions, calling them “unfounded” and “unilateral harassment,” according to a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce.
