Samsung has just officially announced its new ISOCELL HP3 smartphone sensor that will not only delight photography lovers, but will also allow changes in the designs of upcoming smartphones.

All because this component is currently the smallest sensor on the market. The new solution presented today reduces the space occupied by the camera module in a smartphone by no less than 20%. This will allow smartphone brands to design slimmer models and optimize the interior of the terminals.

But the news does not stop there. According to the South Korean giant, the new 1/1.4-inch ISOCELL HP3 “is the image sensor with the smallest 0.56-micrometer pixels in the industry.” Which means that it achieved a reduction of 12% compared to its predecessor.

Samsung’s new sensor is also capable of recording 8K video at 30 frames per second or 4K video recording at 120 frames per second. It is also equipped with Tetra Pixel technology that improves the quality of images captured in low light conditions.

This is made possible by combining four or 16 “neighboring” pixels into a single pixel. In the first case the operation of a 50 megapixel sensor is simulated while in the second a 12.5 megapixel sensor is also simulated.

In addition, the new ISOCELL HP3 also has a Super QPD autofocus solution so that all pixels on the sensor are equipped with autofocus capabilities, as well as the Smart-ISO Pro function that combines image information “made from conversion gains of low and high ISO mode to create HDR images.

It should be noted that the South Korean giant has already delivered a few copies of the new sensor to smartphone brands and mass production of the ISOCELL HP3 will start later this year.
