Rolling Stone calls Featherweight the “future of music.”

Mexican singer Peso Pluma was named “the most important artist in the world” by Rolling Stone magazine due to the boom that his artistic career experienced.

The April issue of the renowned publication features Hassan Emilio Kabande on the cover after dedicating a special to him about his career and calling him the “future” of music.

In the interview, Peso Pluma talked about his projects, including his new album “Éxodo”, which will be released in the summer.

Furthermore, he explained that he had to make many sacrifices to establish himself as one of the most important regional Mexican artists and become a world-class personality.

“I’m proud to fly my flag and be the first to do many things: to be able to show my roots, where we come from and what we do,” he said.

Peso Pluma also assured that he has always had very crazy ideas and believes that his artistic irreverence has allowed him to achieve success in music.

“I’m crazy. And I don’t say that in jest. Mentally I’m crazy: the ideas I have, the songs we make. I think madness is part of genius; I made music more to make money , because that’s how I ate. “I didn’t have any other job,” he said.

He brought the corridos to an international level

The magazine recognizes that the 24-year-old rose to fame with a distinctive Mexican style of music.

Although he rose to fame with songs about heartbreak and romance, his most popular songs are those about extravagant living and luxury.

He thus managed to position the Corridos Tumbados internationally as a modern version of the folkloric ballads that have been part of Mexican culture for hundreds of years; although they are controversial due to their connotations with violence, weapons, drugs, corruption and poverty.

Peso Pluma has not refused to combine its style with other genres, from pop to reggaeton, where it has also opened its space.

In this way, he managed to enter the most important global music charts with millions of listeners on various platforms.

His career continued to evolve, becoming the most viewed artist of the year on YouTube, surpassing singers of the caliber of Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny.

In 2024 he won his first Grammy for “Best Mexican Music Album” for his album “Génesis”.

“Peso swapped cowboy boots and hats for high-end sneakers and baseball caps, looking more like a glamorous rapper than a Mexican singer,” claims Rolling Stone magazine.

The truth is that Peso Pluma has become a reference in Mexican music and his particular haircut is popular among young people. In this way, he is aware that he owes his success to his fans who gave him the support that made him successful.

“I’m grateful to my people and the fans who supported me because they’re the ones who got us up the charts and everything else… I think it’s not just Featherweight that made it to number one: it’s “Mexican music that made it happen,” he said.
