Priberam gives new life to the Dictionary of the Portuguese Language

This week, the Priberam Portuguese Language Dictionary presented users with a renewed and more user-friendly interface. It is optimized for both personal computers and mobile devices.

Popularly known as “o Priberam”, it celebrated its 14th anniversary on April 1, and the aim of the renovation is to help maintain its position as not only the dictionary with the most visits in Portugal, but also one of the most visited. Popular Portuguese websites.

Search bar becomes fixed in Priberam

In this new life of the site, the search bar stands out, which becomes fixed, maintaining its position even when the page is scrolled vertically. This will especially facilitate its use on mobile devices.

There is now an automatic display of images associated with posts, whenever they exist (until now, this only happened if the visitor clicked on a specific icon).

Just below the search bar, the most searched words of the day will be highlighted. It is also easier to select variant spellings (Portuguese or Brazilian), on the left side of the search bar.

“This was a change intended above all to make it easier for our users to visit and search, which were instrumental in establishing the Priberam Dictionary as the most popular resource of its kind in Portugal,” says Carlos Amaral, CEO of Priberam.

In numbers, the Priberam Dictionary already has 155,180 lexical entries, along with 8,683 sentences (total sentences: 163,863). It has 259,718 definitions, 90,086 synonyms, 8,652 antonyms, 92,467 etymologies, and 1,317 collective names.

There are also 14,342 indications of verbal conjugation, 22,709 of pronunciation and 10,188 of morphology. It also has 4,609 senses illustrated with images.
