Outlook crashes a lot lately? You are not alone but there is a solution

If you’ve noticed that Outlook is crashing a lot lately, there might be a simple fix: m.

After several user complaints, Microsoft investigated the issue with their email application and found that the cause is trying to open an email with an embedded table.

According to Microsoft, “When you open, reply to, or forward some emails that include complex tables, Outlook stops responding.”

An example of this type of email is a Uber receiptwhich is causing the email client to crash.

Microsoft says it is aware of the issue, which affects Microsoft 365 customers running current channel version 2206 Build 15330.20196 or higher. Beta and Current Channel Preview versions are also affected.

For some users, the problem extends beyond Outlook. Microsoft Word is also unresponsive when presented with similar complex tables.

The company’s engineers have already created a fix for the Word issue, which will be released to the Beta channel after approval. Regular customers should expect a fix on August 9, 2022.

If you need to access these emails now and can’t wait until the next Patch Tuesday, Microsoft has suggested downgrading to an older installation for now.

This involves pasting two commands into the command prompt window as an administrator.

cd %programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun
officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.15225.20288
