Last year Oneplus launched the Nord smartphone, Its first offering in the midrange segment for a long time. The high-end, mid-range smartphone has received a positive reception, so it’s no surprise that the Chinese company plans to replicate that success with the launch of a successor this year.
OnePlus Nord 2 will be the successor of Nord and has been seen in several leaks and teasers, but nothing was known about its official release. Now Oneplus has confirmed that OnePlus Nord 2 will be released on July 22.
This information was disclosed through the company’s official account on Twitter. The launch event is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm UK time on that date. The company even created a page for the Nord 2 on their website. Fans will be able to sign up to be notified when the device becomes available.
The product page also contains some teasers of Nord 2. The most important is the MediaTek chipset that the device will have. Oneplus describes the chipset as unique and promotes the device as having “Two brains, one chipset”. This is obviously about the chipset that the smartphone will equip. Oneplus previously confirmed that the Nord 2 will equip the Dimensity 1200-AI. The new chipset is a custom chip from MediaTek in collaboration with Oneplus as part of its Open Resources Dimensions Architecture.
Benchmark listing for the Nord 2 confirmed that the Dimension 1200-AI has improved AI performance compared to Dimensity 1200. All the specifications of the device are still unknown, but it is said that the Nord 2 5G will have a 6.43 inch AMOLED FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, punch hole for the front camera, and under-display fingerprint sensor. The smartphone will also come with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
For photography, rumor has it that the device may feature a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 50MP (wide) + 8MP (ultra-wide) + 2MP (unknown) sensor. For selfies, rumor has it that it will have a 32MP front camera.
The Nord 2 5G will also bring a 4500mAh battery and will support Warp Charge 30T Plus fast charging technology, among other features.
