New Google Stadia feature lets you use a smartphone as a gamepad

You no longer need to use the Stadia controller to enjoy the game streaming service on your TV.

All because Google is launching a new feature that allows players in the Stadia community to use their Android or iOS smartphone as a virtual gamepad.

With the new Google feature, you can use third-party gamepads on Stadia

Not only does Google’s new feature allow you to use your smartphone as a game controller, it also allows you to use controls from other manufacturers. Just connect them to your smartphone via Bluetooth or USB.

New functionality requires Android TV, Chromecast Ultra, or Google TV. To add or activate a gamepad, you will need to do so through the Stadia mobile app and select “play on TV.”

Note that Android TV and Google TV users will also need to activate the gamepad in the Stadia app.
