MS Dhoni Blames Player Mindset, Not Impact Player Rule, For High Scores

MS Dhoni isn’t buying the hype around the Impact Player rule. He thinks it’s not the reason for big scores in the IPL. The Chennai Super Kings captain believes it’s all about the players’ mindset. Dhoni says, “When the Impact Player rule came in, I didn’t think it was needed. It rarely helps me. I’m still a wicket-keeper, so I’m not an Impact Player. I have to field too.”

What’s behind the big scores?

Dhoni thinks it’s not the extra player that’s making the difference. He says, “People think the Impact Player rule is why we’re seeing big scores. But I think it’s because players are more relaxed and the conditions are right. The extra batsman isn’t scoring all the runs. It’s about the team’s mindset. They know they have an extra batsman, so they’re more confident.”

Rivalries

When asked about his rivalry with Mumbai Indians, Dhoni said, “As a batsman, I want to score against every team. I try to bat according to what the team needs.” He’s not worried about who’s on the other side. Dhoni just wants to win.
