Shihan Hussaini, a 60-year-old actor, passed away after a long battle with blood cancer. His family shared the news, revealing that he had been fighting the disease for some time before succumbing to it at a hospital in Chennai on Tuesday, March 25. Shihan was known for his mastery of karate and archery, and his love for the arts.
The news of his death was met with an outpouring of grief from fans and fellow actors, including Pawan Kalyan, who broke down in tears upon hearing the news. Pawan had been scheduled to meet Shihan on March 29 but was devastated to learn of his passing. He remembered Shihan as a mentor who had taught him valuable skills in martial arts, archery, and the performing arts.
Shihan’s film career spanned several decades, with notable roles in films like “Punnagai Mannan” (1986) alongside Kamal Haasan and “Velai Kanan” with Rajinikanth. However, it was his eccentric behavior and devotion to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa that often made headlines. In 2015, he had nailed himself to a cross in a bizarre stunt to appeal for Jayalalithaa’s return to power.
Jayalalithaa, who passed away in 2016, had been the subject of Shihan’s artistic tributes, including a series of paintings made with his own blood. In 2005, he created 56 portraits of her using his blood to mark her 56th birthday. Eight years later, he went a step further by creating a statue of her using 11 liters of his own blood. Although Jayalalithaa had condemned these actions, Shihan remained a devoted fan.
His funeral was attended by friends, family, and fellow archers, who paid their respects to the multifaceted artist. As news of his passing spread, fans and colleagues took to social media to remember his contributions to the world of cinema and the arts.
