MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ is the new rival of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

THE MediaTek It is the world’s largest manufacturer of processors for mobile devices, surpassing the Qualcomm not in reputation, but in sales volume. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to it, especially now that we have a new SoC (system on chip) top of the range, the new MediaTek Dimension 9000+ for a new generation of smartphones premium.

The new chipset arrives to replace the Dimension 9000 introduced by MediaTek late last year, just as Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in late 2021. So, like Qualcomm’s upgrade to its high-end chip, MediaTek has now beefed up its best processor for mobile phones, tablets and other devices.

In short, the new high-end processor can be described as a Dimensity 9000 with a beefed-up main core for higher performance. We have, in effect, the same base and nuclear configuration. This with a higher maximum processing frequency for the larger core, normally in charge of the most demanding tasks.

The new MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ now supports a maximum display refresh rate of 144Hz for Quad-HD+ (2K) displays. At the same time, it can support a maximum refresh rate of 180Hz on displays whose maximum resolution is Full-HD+ (1080p).

Looking at raw performance and processing levels, MediaTek claims its Dimensity 9000+ shows gains of 5% for the CPUas well as a graphic center (GPU) with gains of 10%. Also note that the chipset integrates the new architecture of the ARM v9 for CPU with lithography 4 notmeter.

The performance increases are due to the new “super core”, a Cortex-X2 with a maximum processing frequency of 3.2 GHz. In addition, we have a total of four efficient Cortex-A510 cores, as well as three Cortex-A710 cores. On the other hand, for graphics we have the ARM Mali-G710 MAC10 GPU.

In short, this is the new chipset eight cores from MediaTek, with reinforcement for the main “super core”, responsible for the most demanding tasks. However, it maintains efficient cores for the simplest tasks such as communications, notification management, etc.

We even have a new image signal processor that can equate to better photos. That is, we have a new Image Signal Processor (ISP). More specifically, the Imagiq 790 ISP supports 18-bit HDR video capture from up to three cameras simultaneously. It also supports a sensor with a resolution of up to 320 MP and video capture up to 4K HDR.

Communications have also been updated. That is, the included modem now supports maximum download speeds of up to 7 GBps, as well as support for accessing 5G/4G Dual SIM Dual Active mobile networks. We also support Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, and GNSS standards.

Finally, MediaTek assured that the new processor will hit the market at the end of the third quarter of the year. That is, until the end of September 2022, being able to integrate a new generation of smartphones thereafter. So it will be a powerful and cheaper alternative to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, ultimately benefiting the consumer.
