The iPhone 13 Pro is covered with a 120 Hz ProMotion screen of the most beautiful effect. Unfortunately, many third-party iOS apps are currently deprived of this long-awaited feature. Apple is committed to quickly correcting the situation.
Among the great novelties of the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, we find the ProMotion screen. Similar to the one already integrated in the iPad Pro, the screen adapts the refresh rate of the panel to the needs of users. If you’re playing a video game or scrolling through a Twitter or Facebook news feed, the screen goes up to 120Hz to deliver an ultra smooth experience. If you display a still image, the frequency drops to 10 Hz to save battery power.
Unfortunately, 120 Hz is not available on all third-party applications. According to the findings of several iOS developers, such as Christian Selig, many applications offered on the App Store still display animations confined to 60 Hz. Several users have noticed this defect by deactivating and reactivating the 120 Hz screen option in the smartphone settings.
Apple commits to jailbreak the 120 Hz screen of the iPhone 13 Pro for third-party apps
In a statement to 9to5Mac, Apple pledged to allow application developers touse ProMotion technology on their applications. To benefit from 120 Hz, developers will have to register their applications for a program on the App Store. The necessary documentation will soon be posted online.
Unsurprisingly, Apple will handpick the applications that will be authorized to display 120 Hz on iPhone to limit the impact of this feature on battery life. The Cupertino company will reserve the ProMotion screen for applications that offer features likely to take advantage of 120 Hz, such as mobile games.

Note that all the applications offered by Apple, such as Apple Music, Settings, Notes or Messages, are indeed 120 Hz compatible. The animations of these applications are therefore very more fluid and responsive than on the standard iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 mini. From the first moments of the grip, the difference is noticeable between the 120 Hz screen of the iPhone 13 Pro and the 60 Hz screen of an iPhone 12 Pro. It’s very nice for games that require responsiveness and good reflexes.
