Guillermo Pousada, national award winner for best young HIV researcher, dies of cancer

The Canguese Guillermo Pousada FernandezA renowned biologist who won the national award for the best and youngest HIV researcher in 2021 died last Sunday at the age of 40 after years of battle with cancer, which he himself reported on social networks.

The remains originally came from the capital Morracense and were brought by the funeral home to the former collegiate church on Monday Santiago de Cangaswhere the funeral took place.

Pousada was Degree in Biology and Doctor of Human Genetics and Molecular Biology, specialized in rare diseases, from the University of Vigo. He has received several recognitions for his research work, including the national award for the best and youngest HIV researcher in 2021.

Since the end of 2017, he has been the clinical trials coordinator of the Internal Medicine Service, Infectious Diseases Group, at the Alvaro Cunqueiro Hospital in Vigo. He was diagnosed in 2022 Oral cancer and since then he has used social networks to tell and make visible his personal battle against the disease.
