Fortnite returns to iPhone, but not via the App Store

Fortnite is available again on iOS, but not like you might think. Thanks to Nvidia’s game streaming service, GeForceNow, iOS and Android users will be able to play Fortnite with touch controls.

Players can participate in the closed beta of the new mobile version of Fortnite. It is not necessary to have a paid account to play, but if you want to play Fortnite for more than an hour, you might be forced to update.

Fortnite has not been played on iOS devices since August 2020, when it was banned from the App Store for trying to evade Apple’s 30% commission on in-app purchases.

Epic Games sued Apple, claiming the technology company is a monopoly. In September, the California court ruled that Apple cannot ban developers from adding alternative payment links outside of the App Store. However, he agreed with Apple that it is not acting like a monopoly.

Neither Apple nor Epic were happy with the decision, so both parties appealed. Apple also convinced the appeals court to give it more time before the injunction took effect. That means you didn’t have to make the court-ordered changes in the App Store.
