Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to one year in prison for illegally using money for his re-election.
According to the Associated Press (AFP), a French court on Thursday convicted former President Nicolas Sarkozy of illegally using money for his re-election in 2012.
Sarkozy, 66, will not spend time behind bars under the terms of the ruling, but will be able to serve his sentence outside the jail.
In March, Sarkozy was sentenced to three years in prison on corruption charges.
Nicolas Sarkozy was accused at the time of offering to help a judge gain a senior position in Monaco, in return for which the judge was asked to use his influence in an ongoing investigation into election funding.
Nicolas Sarkozy was President of France from 2007 to 2012.
