Elon Musk estimated the number of bots on Twitter with a tool that marked his own account as a ‘bot’

The feud between Elon Musk and Twitter is still alive, after Twitter filed a lawsuit against Musk for abandoning the acquisition based on the high number of bot accounts.

Musk defended his decision in court alleging that Twitter’s disclosures to the US Securities and Exchange Commission. “contain numerous material misrepresentations or omissions that distort the value of Twitter and cause Musk’s share to agree to acquire the company at an inflated price.”

Twitter has now filed a 127-page document in Delaware Chancery Court in response to Musk’s defense.

According to Twitter, Musk used a bot detection tool called “Botometer” estimate that bots and spam accounts represent at least 10% of monetizable daily active users (mDAU) on the platform.

But according to the company, Musk isn’t using the same data as Twitter or measuring the exact same data, which leads to biased results that “Musk hopes they make an impact anyway.”

Twitter also criticized Musk’s use of the Botometer. According to the social giant, Botometer’s standards differ from those of Twitter, to the point where the tool labels the billionaire’s account as “highly likely to be a bot” in early 2022, giving it a 4/5 rating (similar to a bot).

Botometer has now changed the rating to 1.2/2, which means the tool no longer believes that the Tesla CEO is a bot.

The Twitter-Musk showdown will last for five days starting October 17th.
