In the Comica Vimo S box we have a very complete experience. We see the instruction manual and some stickers alluding to the brand at the entrance. Then we find the charging case, with the microphones in order and the receiver that attaches magnetically to it.
In addition, we have the two ‘dead jack’, which you will use if you are going to record in ‘windy’ circumstances to avoid noise in your recordings. You also get a USB-C charger and adapter so you can charge while monitoring your audio.
My opinion on the Comica Vimo S MI
This is another completely wireless lavalier microphone solution on the market, appealing to anyone who wants a lot of portability when recording. All you have to do is plug it into your iPhone’s Lightning port (or USB-C if you opt for the Android version), clip the mic to your lapel, and start recording.
The charging case works with USB-C and even has a light indicator for its battery level. Connecting to your smartphone couldn’t be simpler, as the microphones are factory-paired to the receiver.
The receiver, as already mentioned, is magnetically attached to the charging box and does not need to be charged. This is because it is powered directly into the Lightning port when in use.
In this receiver we have a light indication that the microphones are paired, and even a rotary button to increase or decrease the gain of the microphones while we use it. This one is especially interesting because it does not require any application.
We also have the button to activate or deactivate noise cancellation. When using the receiver connected to the iPhone or iPad, we lose the Lightning port for charging. But since this one has a USB-C output, you can charge your smartphone that way or plug in the USB-C/3.5mm jack adapter and monitor the audio.
It should be noted that this version is technically called Comica Vimo S MI, and it has passed the MFI certification. This means that it is an Apple-approved product, so you will not have noise or connectivity problems.
Both microphones have a mute button, to “cut” the audio in any emergency. And since we have two transmitters, users can choose between recording everything on the same track, or recording in mode, separating the two audios for editing.
The battery is one of the scrolls of this product, since it guarantees great versatility. The brand promises up to 5 hours of battery life for the microphones and 15 hours using the charging box. Which in my tests turned out to be very close to the truth.
But how far away can we use this mic without starting to lose it? Here Comica also gives us great versatility, since we have audio with stability up to 200 meters. But you should keep in mind that this is valid for an open area.
If you encounter some barriers on the way, it is natural that you will not have any problems. What I can tell you is that I tested them by recording more than 100 meters from my smartphone in an open area and I did not have any interruptions in the audio. More than enough in the typical scenario.
Here is an audio comparison between my iPhone 13 Pro with me 3 meters from it, with and without Comica Vimo S MI. This is one of the reasons why this product stands out: the freedom of movement associated with the quality of the audio.
Users will mainly use the Comica Vimo S for video. Therefore, it is up to us to understand if there is a delay. The brand claims that we have only 20 milliseconds of delay, which means that you have not noticed any discrepancy between the audio and the video.
Where you can see the brand was saved is in the overall build quality of the product, especially the cargo box. The lid, although transparent and with good magnetism, is not the most robust I have seen.
Conclusion on Comica Vimo S MI
It’s an ideal wireless lavalier microphone for anyone looking to vlog or interview on the go. Although it doesn’t have the best audio in the segment, we achieved very satisfactory results, with no visible lag and good noise cancellation.
The high portability of the product is commendable. We managed to fit everything in our pocket, and when we got to the shooting location, it was just plug and play. The microphones battery life of almost 5 hours is quite good, and on the box we have a slight indication of how much autonomy we have left.
Of course, to reach a price of around €130 (in the case of the USB-C version) or €160 (in the Lightning version), the brand has had to cut some costs. And that shows in the build quality, especially the charging case lid, which isn’t very robust.
For price-quality, this is youm product that I definitely recommend. It’s easy to use and brings unique versatility to vlogging or interviewing on the street. The fact that you can buy it on Amazon Spain certainly makes things easier.
