Cabrera pushes, Soto saves and Detroit defeats the Pirates

Miguel Cabrera had an RBI single in the eighth inning, and the Detroit Tigers completed a two-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 3-1 win on Wednesday.

Harold Castro led off the eighth with a single off Wil Crowe (2-3) and Jonathan Schoop followed up with a soft drive to center field that Bryan Reynolds appeared to catch. Replays showed Reynolds managed to hook the ball, but a hit was ruled. Cabrera came up to bat and connected up the center and Castro scored from second.

Schoop and Austin Meadows each had two hits for Detroit, which was coming off a sweep of the New York Yankees. Daz Cameron drove in a pair of runs, the first with a triple in the second and the other with a double in the ninth.

Detroit endured a two-hour rain delay to finally beat the Pirates 5-3 on Tuesday night. They followed suit Wednesday afternoon for their seventh victory in 11 games.

Will Vest (1-1) earned the win with a perfect seventh. Gregory Soto overcame a threat from two running backs with two outs in the ninth to earn his 12th save.

For the Tigers, the Venezuelans Cabrera 4-1, one RBI; and Castro 5-1, one scored. Puerto Rican Javier Báez 4-0.

For the Pirates, the Venezuelans Diego Castillo 4-1 and Tucupita Marcano 3-0.
