Football Rule Changes: A Comprehensive Guide to the Latest Developments

The new rules that come to football

New Changes to Football Rules Come into Effect

As the new season begins, there are several changes to the rules of football that are now in effect. These changes were announced by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) in an effort to create a more fluid and attractive game for amateur footballers.

Key Changes to be Implemented

One of the new rules is that in the event of concussion, a sixth substitution will be permitted. Additionally, not every handball that prevents a clear and manifest opportunity will be punished with a red card. Instead, a penalty and a yellow card will be issued.

Other changes to the rules include the extension of the time goalkeepers have to hold the ball from 6 to 8 seconds. The IFAB also rules that penalty kicks will only be retaken if the player who enters the area has an influence on the final result of the play.

Wenger Law still Under Study

The "Wenger Law", which refers to a change in the offside rule that allows the striker to be in front of the defender but with a part of his body in line with him, is still in the study phase. This change has been brought to the forefront by recent controversy in the European Championship.

Spain to Introduce New Rule

Spain has announced that it will adopt the UEFA rule of not allowing group protests towards referees. Only the captain will be able to go to the referee to hear his explanations, and mass protests will be punished with a yellow card.

Time Wasting and the New Rules

The IFAB is also concerned about time wasting and wants to minimize gestures that footballers use to seek profit or disrupt the game. The organization wants to create a more efficient and enjoyable experience for players and fans alike.
