The US Department of Justice has submitted a lawsuit accusing Apple of monopolistic practices in the smartphone market. Seventeen attorneys general joined the federal ministry in this extensive lawsuit.
“Consumers shouldn’t have to pay higher prices because companies violate antitrust laws.”U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement released with the news..
“If Apple remains unchallenged, it will only further strengthen its monopoly in the smartphone market.”
Apple responded by arguing that if successful Such demand would hurt the company’s ability to compete in the crowded smartphone market.. In a statement, the company points out:

This lawsuit represents a threat to who we are and the principles that define Apple products in highly competitive markets. If successful, it would impact our ability to develop the type of technology that people expect from Apple, where hardware, software and services overlap.
It would also set a dangerous precedent and empower the government to excessively intervene in the design of human technology. We believe this lawsuit is factually and legally flawed and will defend it vigorously.
The lawsuit follows heightened levels of international regulatory scrutiny in markets such as the European Union.
