Apple preparing 20.5-inch foldable laptop by 2025, says Ross Young

Apple is developing a 20.5-inch foldable laptop that could go on sale in 2025, according to information shared today by exhibition analyst Ross Young.

Young shared details in a tweet commenting on a recent iPad rumor by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said that Apple was developing a foldable iPad by 2024.

So far, both Young and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman have said they don’t see any sign of a foldable tablet next year.

The rumor about a foldable MacBook isn’t exactly new, as Young shared similar information in February 2022. Young said at the time that Apple was discussing foldable laptops with screens of around 20 inches with its suppliers.

According to today’s report, Apple is still chasing some kind of portable foldable product, which would feature a full-size on-screen keyboard when folded or the option to use it with an external keyboard when unfolded. Young has already said that this would be a completely new product category for Apple.

Whether the supposed 20-inch foldable would be positioned as an iPad, a Mac, or something entirely new was unclear, but so far multiple sources seem to think 2024 is too soon for any kind of foldable.
