Google is slowly updating the aesthetics of its various services. After today we unveil the new Gmail interface, now it’s time to give Android Auto the same prominence.

After looking at the published images, it is impossible not to notice similarities with Apple CarPlay. It seems that Google was inspired by its main competitor in the segment and the user will only benefit from it.

One of the main novelties will be the possibility of having two different app windows open at the same time. That is, the user will be able to have Google Maps and Spotify on the same screen to control music playback while heading to their destination.

Android Auto’s traditional status bar will disappear from its usual location, repositioning its information on the screen. In effect, information such as the time, the data connection or the battery status of the smartphone will be moved to the lower right corner.

On the opposite side will be two buttons, one of which will open the app drawer. Next to it will be the home button which, depending on the source, will be able to bring up some widgets with a long press.

The possible functionality of rejecting a call and replying to the contact with a text message remains to be confirmed. It is not clear if this message will be predefined or if the user will be able to dictate it through the Google Assistant.
