Actress Farooq Jaffer, who started her career as a radio host at Vividh Bharati in Lucknow and later made her mark as a stage performer and film actress, passed away today in Lucknow. He was 88 years old and was battling age-related ailments for a long time.

Farooq Jaffer began her film career with the famous film ‘Umrao Jaan’ directed by Muzaffarpur Ali and released in 1981. In this film, she played the role of Rekha’s mother. But for some reasons, she stayed away from the glamor of the movie world for nearly two decades.

Significantly, after 23 years, Farooq Jaffer once again appeared on the movie screen when he was working on the film starring Shahrukh Khan. In addition to ‘Umrao Jaan’, ‘Swadesh’, Farooq Jaffer also starred in ‘Peepli Live’ produced by Aamir Khan, Salman Khan starring ‘Sultan’, Prakash Jha directed ‘Chakravyuh’ and Kangana Ranaut starring ‘Tanu Weds Manu’.

Belonging to a family of owners from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, Farooq Jaffer’s last film was ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ directed by Shoojit Sircar and released in 2020, instead of being released in theaters during the Corona period, directly on the OTT platform ( Amazon)). was released. Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana were in the main roles in this film and Farooq Jaffer played the role of Amitabh Bachchan’s mother in the film. In particular, she also received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Fatima Begum in ‘Gulabo Sitabo’. In this way, she became the oldest actress to win a Filmfare Award as an actress.
