Yankees trade with Red Sox, designate Aaron Hicks for assignment

The rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees it is one of the most important in Major League history and it is very unusual for them to make player trades between franchises.

However, ‘Bronx Bombers’ traded for outfielder Greg Allen in exchange for minor league pitcher Diego Hernández and extra money.

Allen will live his second stint with the Yankees. The switch-hitter played 15 games with the ‘Manhattan Mules’ in the 2021 season. He posts a career .232 batting average with 10 home runs and 67 RBIs.

Hernandez, an 18-year-old pitcher from the Dominican Republic, is a good prospect for the Red Sox bullpen. Last year he made 12 appearances, five starts, for the Dominican Summer League Yankees team and posted a 2:10 ERA.

This was the sixth trade between the Yankees and Red Sox since 1972 and the first since Adam Ottavino and Franklin Germán moved from New York to Boston in 2021.
