WBC will not approve the rematch between 'Canelo' Álvarez and Dmitry Bivol at 168 pounds

Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez faced John Ryder on May 6 at the Akron Stadium in Jalisco, Mexico; and immediately pointed to a possible rematch against Russian Dmitry Bivol.

The Mexican has repeatedly expressed that he wants revenge in the same conditions in which the first fight with the Russian took place: Light Heavyweight; in this division, Bivol is champion for the world boxing association.

For his part, the Russian Dmitry Bivol has indicated that he wants to face the Mexican in the super middleweights, since the incentive of taking away his four championships would be attractive to him.

Mauricio Sulaimán was forceful

Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the World Boxing Council, was blunt in pointing out thator I would endorse the fight between the Mexican and the Russian at 168 pounds.

“No, not at this time (endorsing the super middleweight fight). The definition that was had is clear. It is a constant and consistent position. Bivol has not approached the process that was left open for fighters who wanted to apply to have their specific case reviewed. Bivol hasn’t, so at the moment, Bivol can’t participate in a WBC fight. Until there is boxing in Ukraine, there will be no boxing that the WBC can recognize in Russia.”said the president of the WBC.

The WBC has been clear in its position, since the war between Russia and Ukraine began, it does not endorse fights in which Russian fighters are involved.; at this moment they are not in their classifications and for this reason I would not endorse the rematch fight between ‘Cinnamon’ and Bivolif it is done in the division of the 168 pounds where the Mexican has his belts.
