“As a result of the joint actions of the militia units of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Russian Armed Forces, the town of Lyman was completely liberated from Ukrainian nationalists”, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. He thus confirmed an announcement made the day before by the pro-Russian separatists of this “Republic” self-proclaimed Eastern Ukrainian. The Ukrainian army had not commented on this information late Saturday morning.

Taking Lyman would remove an obstacle to Sloviansk, then Kramatorsk. It also marks progress in the attempt to encircle Severodonetsk and Lysytchansk, two other important Ukrainian cities further east.
