Vivek Oberoi: “Bollywood is an ‘exclusive club’ where the last name is more important than the talent”

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi hasn’t had it easy in the film industry. Despite being the son of Suresh Oberoi, his own colleagues almost dismissed him. But the 45-year-old actor has no regrets for career decisions he once made. In a recent interview, he criticized how Bollywood treats young talents.

Vivek, who plays a pivotal role in the Inside Edge web show, says Bollywood has now become an “exclusive club,” where surname takes precedence over talent. He also said that he is doing his best to attract “new and fresh” talent and support new actors.

“One big complaint I have about Bollywood is that we have not developed to nurture and support young talent. It seems difficult. We have elevated Bollywood to an exclusive club where it matters what your last name is, or who you know and where you perform. That’s what matters. It is not your talent. That’s too bad.”

Vivek Oberoi made his debut with the Bollywood Film Company in 2002 and has since appeared in such films as Saathiya, Shootout at Lokhandwala, and Omkara. He currently plays an important role in the Inside Edge web program.
