Covid-19: US records 3000 deaths a day for the first time since the pandemic began

The United States first surpassed 3,000 dead in a single day since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, according to an independent count from Johns Hopkins University.

The country counted 3,202 deaths caused by the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 292,091 deaths, according to the figures counted by the American institution until 20:00 on Thursday.

The USA also registered 210,887 new infections, accumulating more than 15.5 million cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

The United States is the country with the most deaths caused by the new coronavirus SARS-Cov-2, responsible for covid-19, and also with more confirmed cases of infection (15,582,840).

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,570,398 deaths resulting from more than 68.8 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.

In Portugal, 5,278 people died from 335,207 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
