The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to hold a meeting this Monday at the request of the United States to deal with the current crisis in Ukraine, with which it is expected to relax the tensions that have been reflected for weeks in Russia’s shows of force. and NATO.

This was announced on Friday by the president of the Security Council, Mona Juul, at a press conference in which she described the United States’ proposal to meet as "a favorable advance".

Before this announcement was made, the Russian ambassador to the United Nations, Dmitri Polianski, indicated that he hoped that the Security Council would not support this proposal by the United States to meet, since it is nothing more than a "embarrassing public relations stunt".

"I cannot recall another occasion in which a member of the Security Council has proposed to discuss his own accusations and baseless assumptions as if they were another party’s threat to the international order."he wrote on Twitter.

For its part, as the escalation of tensions between the two parties continues, the NGO Amnesty International (AI) has warned of the "devastating consequence" for the rights and freedoms that resort to military force would have, although it has only targeted Russia in this regard.

"The threat of Russian use of military force is already affecting the human rights of millions of people in Ukraine and beyond"has accused the general secretary of AI, Agnes Callamard.

"The consequences of actual military force are likely to be devastating. Ukraine’s recent history is marked by conflicts involving Russian troops in Donbas and the illegal annexation of Crimea"has said.

Amnesty has recalled that in armed conflicts, civilians must not only be protected, but anyone involved in abuses must be held accountable. The NGO has said that it will closely monitor the situation to "expose violations of international humanitarian law" that may occur in the conflict by each of the two parties involved.
