The Royal Family

Today we publish in Listín Diario a small report dedicated to Felipe Rojas Jr., one of Felipe’s sons, the patriarch of the Rojas Alou.

Why do the surnames Rojas and Alou flow in both directions? Because all of Felipe’s children should be Rojas, but not necessarily Rojas Alou. He has had children by three wives and that is why that circumstance occurs.

Moisés, the oldest, is the son of María Beltré, Felipe’s first wife. Then Felipe would have as a partner Elsa Brens, the mother of Luis and Felipón and finally married Mrs. Lucie Cagnon, a native of the state of Quebec, in Canada. In total, according to records in the networks, Felipe has had 9 children (4 females, 5 males). Some of them have remained in baseball and continue to work, such as the cases of Moisés, Felipón and Luis.

What does this mean? That the different groups of Felipe’s children could be Rojas Beltré, Rojas Brens and Rojas Cagnon (making the adaptation to the Dominican because that custom does not exist in Canada or the USA).

Alex Luna, the author of the report, says that Felipón has joined the “Royal Family” of Dominican baseball, that is, the Rojas Alou. Some of its members have stayed with the Alou surname only, like Moisés, but that is not open to criticism. Also in sports, as in show business and other lines of life, some artistic accommodations are worth.

I must not leave out Felipe’s brothers, Mateo and Jesús, who were also pioneers among the first Dominicans in the Major Leagues with notable achievements. In fact, Mateo was the first Creole to win a batting title, in 1966 with a .342 average for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

And there are also the stories of nephews, such as Mel Rojas Sr. and Mel Rojas Jr., the latter being an asset. The case is interesting, worthy of being studied in depth. We have had other families, like the Pérez de Nigua.

Dedicated to the Licey, read the following twit from colleague José Monegro, director of the newspaper El Día: "The @TigresdelLicey directive abuses the fanatic and encourages the mafia on the black market. That alone explains why it has resisted selling the ticket office electronically like other teams do. NOTE: I personally have my season tickets".

WINNERS: Kevin Cash of the AL and Gabe Kapler of the NL were easy winners of the MLB Manager of the Year award for the 2021 season. Cash of Tampa won 100 games, the best season of the franchise and also the East Division. He got 19 first-place votes, Seattle’s Scott Servais and Toronto’s Charlie Montoyo, three each, Houston’s Dusty Baker 2 and Boston’s Alex Cora 1. In the National, Kapler, who had the best record of Major League Baseball with 107 wins, was favored with 28 first-place votes and Greg Counsell, Milwaukee, and Mike Shildt, of St. Louis, one each. The Cy Young Award winners will be announced tonight. Corbin Burnes, from Milwaukee, Max Scherzer, Washington-Dodgers, and Zack Wheeler, from Philadelphia, compete in the National. In the AL, Gerrit Cole of the Yankees, Lance Lynn of the White Sox and Robbie Ray of Toronto.

MORE FROM MLB: Toronto gave José Berríos a 7-year pact for US $ 131 million. It’s a lot of time and a lot of money, because pitchers get injured frequently. Noah Syndergaard, the Mets expitcher, did not pitch in 2020 and in 2021 he did so in two appearances. It comes from operations and recovery. Yesterday he signed for $ 21 million with the Angels and naturally the credit goes to his agent. A lot of money for a guy who comes from overcoming health problems.

FROM LIDOM: Well, Franmil Reyes had announced his entry to play with the Chosen One, but now he says that he will not play, that his agent recommended that he stay out because he is going to the arbitration system. That is normal in Lidom, where there is a high dose of informality. Yasiel Puig, the half-crazy Cuban, returns with the Bulls. Also coming to La Romana is veteran outfielder Josh Reddick, who seems to be coming to sunbathe on Las Minitas beach, plus they’ll pay him everything in dollars. Last night Yermín Mercedes came in and the blue shaker moves well. Today will be the wake for the remains of Julio Lugo, starting at 8 AM at the Blandino de la Abraham Lincoln funeral home. Great grief has caused that death, which arrived unprepared, without warning. Very sorry for your friends and family.
