With the presence of hundreds of children and young athletes, sports leaders, social, religious and political leaders, the City Council of Santo Domingo Este inaugurated this Tuesday at the Culture Parade its Third Municipal Sports Games, to be held until July 14 in facilities throughout the city.
Leading the lighting of the cauldron and the reading of the oath of healthy competition together with Senator Antonio Taveras Guzmán and young sports stars Mía Liberato and Joana Pimentel, Mayor Manuel Jiménez explained that they will participate in the third Santo Domingo Este Sports Games Nearly 5,000 athletes from 25 disciplines, all equipped and coordinated by the Mayor’s Office team coordinated by Roberto Neris, Director of Sports.
According to Jiménez, in the competition the entire community will be the winner, because the games, he said, will be a great opportunity for the healthy recreation of thousands of young people who were affected for more than two years by the confinement of the Covid 19 pandemic and their respective social consequences.
“Everyone is going to win, because our city will vibrate to the rhythm of our best athletes. In the three constituencies we will have sports activities organized for the healthy enjoyment of the whole family. Let no one stay home. Let’s win”, said Mayor Manuel Jiménez as the slogan of the opening ceremony.
The event began with the blessing of Monsignor Benito Ángeles, auxiliary bishop of Santo Domingo, and had a broad representation of the Council of Regidores, headed by its president, José Ramón Jiménez.
Hundreds of sports leaders from the three districts of the city also paraded, in support of the teams that will take to the competitions.
The Third Municipal Games have the senator of the Santo Domingo province, Antonio Taveras Guzmán, as president of the organizing committee, and have the support of the Ministry of Sports.
This same Wednesday, June 15, the children’s baseball competition begins in Mendoza, María del Mar, Los Corales and Hainamosa. On Thursday the 16th it will be played at El Pensador, Los Corales, Hainamosa, Mendoza and María del Mar.
The competition calendar will be shared daily on the official networks of the Santo Domingo Este City Council.
