Return of funds to late-entry affiliates between applause and criticism

Devolución de fondos a afiliados de ingreso tardío entre el aplauso y la critica

The decision of the National Social Security Council (CNSS) to approve the return of RD$7,000 million to some 25,000 workers who entered the Social Security system with more than 45 years of age, is an action that is applauded and supported by the Pension Fund Administrators (AFP) and on the other is criticized by the Coalition of Organizations for a Decent Social Security.

The AFPs integrated into the ADAFP (Dominican Association of Pension Fund Administrators), welcomed the resolution that facilitates the delivery of funds both to late-entry affiliates and to those suffering from a terminal illness, regardless of age, and showed their openness to changes in the law and the improvement of regulations that allow the construction of a more efficient, supportive, sustainable and universal pension system.

However, the Coalition stated that this return is an adjustment to what is established in the Law, for the people who entered the AFP system as affiliates and that, although receiving this return of funds is a relief, and in a certain way a reparation, It has nothing to do with offering and guaranteeing Social Security.

"That the Law only offers that refund to a group that is already 60 years old or older and that people demand it, is because it is known that pensions are misery or simply denied, and the most that can be expected is that they give some money to your loved ones when you pass away"expressed the entity in information sent to the media.

He stressed that the return of funds is not a favor or a concession, it is his money, and it is not Social Security either.

He indicated that Law 87-01 must change to give security to everyone over their accumulated funds, and have help when they need it, but Social Security cannot be "business or assistance, it is a right.
