The Doña Lucy and Lasik boats dominate White Marlin fishing

The boats Doña Lucy, Lasik and Game Changer came out ahead in their respective categories in the preliminary statistics provided after noon on the first day of activities of the 2022 White Marlin Fishing Tournament directed by Salvador Egea in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Cap Cana Destination City.

Doña Lucy dominates in the “Pro” category after releasing six white marlin for a total of 1,800 points. Fishermen Joselo Hernández, four released, Ricardo Quiñones and Rafael Caicedo, with one each, board the boat.

The second place corresponds to Victoria with 900 points and the third position is for Ángela, with two released. Each released white marlin receives 300 points.

The fishermen Caroline Navarro, Orlando Navarro and Héctor Luis Paris sail in Victoria, while Juan Colón stood out for Ángela with the two releases of the boat.

In the “Radar” category, the fisherman Gabriel Santiago had released two pieces to accumulate 600 Lasik points. On his side, Miguel Ricart commanded Malcriá.

The Game Changer boat reported a released needle on Joantoniel Sánchez’s rod for the 300 points that allowed him to come out on top in the “Family” category. Sandy, Penny Maker and Delta Dawn follow with equal scores.

The tournament awards the first three places in each category and 34 boats compete with more than 150 fishermen from Puerto Rico, Venezuela, the United States, Italy and the Dominican Republic. In addition to white marlin, blue marlin and sailfish also receive points.

Opening ceremony

During the opening ceremony held on Thursday night, the president of the Cap Cana Group, Mr. Jorge Subero Medina, the director of the event, Salvador Egea, and the director of the Marina Cap Cana, Mr. Silvano Suazo, spoke.

Subero Medina thanked on behalf of the Cap Cana family, highlighting the effort made over 20 years of family celebration.

“The nautical tourism developed in the country has placed us as number one worldwide and that is due to the work carried out by the Navy team. I feel more than grateful and happy to see the Cap Cana Marina full of foreigners and Dominicans who bet on nautical tourism, ”he stressed.

For his part, director Egea spoke of the work carried out in recent years at the family level and said that it was an honor to be back in his second home. Finally Silvano Suazo spoke, who thanked all those present and especially highlighted the support of the Navy of the Dominican Republic, the fishermen of the San Juan Yacht Club and the Santo Domingo Yacht Club. He said that they were innovating and for the first time in the country the high-tech Pro category was being inserted.
