Sevilla Appoints Joaquín Caparrós as Manager for Third Time Amid Relegation Battle

The Sevilla’s woes continued to pile up, culminating in a dismal 0-1 loss in Valencia last Friday. The writing was on the wall, and the club’s board didn’t hesitate. On Sunday, they announced the sacking of García Pimienta, the coach who had taken the reins at the start of the season after leaving Las Palmas.

A Familiar Face Returns

In a swift move, Sevilla presented Pimienta’s replacement the very same day. Joaquín Caparrós is back at the Sánchez Pizjuán, marking his third stint with the club. Caparrós has a history with Sevilla, having previously led the team from 2000 to 2005, securing promotion to LaLiga in 2001. He also made brief returns in 2017/18 and the following season, taking charge of the last four and 11 games, respectively.

The Task Ahead

With seven matches left to play in LaLiga, Sevilla is still fighting for survival, sitting 14th with 36 points, just seven ahead of the relegation zone. Caparrós, a seasoned coach, had been out of work since 2022 when he parted ways with the Armenia national team. The challenge ahead is clear: steer Sevilla to safety and restore some order to the team.
