The Barcelona squad dominated possession against Mallorca, but their finishing was lacking.
They had 40 shots, a staggering number, yet only managed to score once, and that was after the visitors had already found the back of the net.
Ansu Fati’s Return
Ansu Fati started his second game of the season, six months after his last start.
The 22-year-old didn’t exactly shine, but he wasn’t the one who missed a great chance – that was Ronald Araújo, who shot wide from close range in the 30th minute.
Leo Román’s Heroics
Leo Román, Mallorca’s goalkeeper, was the real star of the show, pulling off an incredible 12 saves to deny Barcelona a rout.
One of his most crucial saves came in the 27th minute, when he stopped Dani Olmo’s effort following an exquisite through ball from Lamine Yamal.
Dani Olmo didn’t miss his second chance, though – he scored 42 seconds into the second half with a well-placed shot.
Barcelona’s Struggles
The Blaugrana’s lack of clinical finishing was on full display, a stark contrast to Román’s inspired performance.
Barcelona remains top of LaLiga, now seven points clear of Real Madrid, who face Getafe on Wednesday.
The two teams will face off again next Saturday in the Copa del Rey final.
Mallorca’s Concerns
For Mallorca, this loss could mean dropping out of the top seven and the European spots, depending on the results of Celta vs Villarreal and Real Sociedad vs Alavés.
