Despite the joy of qualifying for the round of 16, Lionel Scaloni made it clear that not everything is happiness at this stage of the tournament. Securing the ticket as leader of the zone on a Wednesday almost at midnight and having to jump back onto the field on Saturday to fight for a place in the quarterfinals is not a situation that makes the Argentine coach very happy and he put it revealed in the post-game press conference.
“We don’t have time to rest. We are the first in the group and we have to play in a very short time”, complained Scaloni, who insisted with his reasoning. “It’s crazy to play the round of 16 so soon. It’s one in the morning, tomorrow we have to prepare the game and then we have to play.”lamented the coach, who appreciated the performance of his team. “We are satisfied with the match we played, it was not an easy game. You had to play and win against a team that served two results”Scaloni stressed.
Beyond the good performance, the Argentine coach did not want to go too far in triumphalism and ruled out that the victory against the Poles means that Argentina is a favorite for the title. “We played a good game and we have to continue. We are not candidates for anything, we are a difficult team that is going to fight. It is not appropriate to think that by winning today we are going to be champions. Football today is game by game. Even playing well you can lose. Anyone who thinks that Australia will be an easy game is wrong”, remarked the Argentine coach, who also highlighted the conviction that he has in the idea that he has been developing: “This team plays one way and we weren’t going to change if we lost a game.”
