Saudi Arabia: Women will now run high speed modern trains

Riyadh: Women in Saudi Arabia will now be seen driving the Harmain Express train, the relevant agency has started work for the training of women.

In this regard, the sources said that the Saudi Railway Polytechnic announced yesterday that the registration of Saudi women has started for training in the Harmain Express Train Leaders Program.

The Harmain Express is Saudi Arabia’s high-speed train service that will run between Mecca and Medina, and is expected to carry 60 million passengers annually.

Registration for the program for women is open until the 13th of this month and admission can be made through the Railway Polytechnic website.

Those selected for this program will be trained for one year and later it will be possible to get a job in the company running the high speed train project.

Abdulaziz Al-Sogheer, general manager of Saudi Railway Polytechnic, told the media that the training program would start in mid-February in Jeddah and would be taken to the railway project sites for practical training.

He said that with the increasing demand for qualified drivers from the Haramain service, Saudi women would be able to meet this need.

According to sources, the trainees will be given 4,000 riyals per month while they will also be registered in the social insurance scheme.

In addition, 8,000 riyals per month will be given to women graduates who complete the training program, said Abdul Aziz Al-Sogheer.

He further said that the services of women would be instrumental in enhancing the efficiency and quality of railways which would also help in achieving the vision of the country 2030.
