Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra may arrive with one less camera

The Galaxy S23 Ultra was introduced around two months ago and it has four cameras on the back. However, judging by the latest rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, this configuration could lose one of its elements.

The thesis is raised by the renowned filter Ice Universe and reports a significant change in the cameras of Samsung’s main top of the range for 2024. In question, the disappearance of its telephoto sensor.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra should only arrive with a periscope zoom lens

The current configuration of the Galaxy S23 Ultra has a telephoto lens for 3x optical zoom and a periscope lens for 10x zoom. However, if you believe Ice Universe’s predictions, the former could just disappear from the back of the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

This means that Samsung could go back to the triple configuration that it introduced with the launch of the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Effectively, we would have a main lens accompanied by a wide-angle sensor and a periscope.

However, the second zoom sensor appeared the following year in response to user complaints about the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s zoom performance. Can we say that Samsung will take a step back with the Galaxy S24 Ultra?

It’s still too early to answer that question, especially given the absence of justifications for this change. What we have are only theories and it is important to emphasize that we are still far from the official presentation of this smartphone.

Even so, in the comment box of the Ice Universe publication there is no shortage of theories about what will motivate Samsung to choose this path. One of them hypothesizes that the South Korean has come up with a new technique to crop the sensor image without loss of quality.

If all this is true, will Samsung keep the 10x zoom on its periscope sensor? Or will it opt for a shorter distance, as is the case with its rivals, since it is the only one that offers such closeness on its smartphones?

The questions about this change in the configuration of the camera of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra are still many. In the absence of about 10 months for its presentation, these data must be taken with care.
