Samsung Galaxy S23 will bring new Qualcomm ultrasonic sensor
Since its introduction at the launch of the Galaxy S10, Samsung has been using Qualcomm ultrasonic sensors. Although its first generation raised some security concerns, these have now been overcome.
For the Samsung Galaxy S23 range, it is reported that the South Korean technology will use Qualcomm’s new Sonic Max 3D sensor. This was introduced by Americana earlier this year and is currently the most advanced on the market.
We are talking about an ultrasonic sensor present in only a handful of Android smartphones. If it is indeed included in the Galaxy S23, it will be a big step, also for Qualcomm, in popularizing its new technology.
The Sonic Max 3D sensor offers a fingerprint recognition area ten times larger than that currently available on the Galaxy S22. Strictly speaking, we are talking about an area of 20 mm x 30 mm capable of recognizing this human biometric parameter.
In addition, the new Qualcomm sensor is five times more accurate than the current solution used in Samsung’s top-of-the-range sensors. To further enhance computer security, this sensor can authenticate two fingers simultaneously.
This means that the user can opt for the mandatory use of two fingers simultaneously to unlock their smartphone. This approach will be harder to bypass than single sign-on.
These are the main assets offered by the new Qualcomm fingerprint sensor, the 3D Sonic Max. It is, for now, the most advanced solution of its kind available on the market and could be one of the main marketing vectors for the Galaxy S23.
