Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi: only one managed to dominate in 2021

Smartphone shipments decreased by 3.2% in the last quarter of 2021. However, it was a year of global growth with a 5.7% increase in shipments. Those who say that are the IDC analysts.

In the whole of 2021, the global market is led, unsurprisingly, by Samsung. This account accounts for 272 million shipments and a market share of 20.1%. It grew 6% compared to a year ago, when it had registered 256.6 million shipments.

It is closely followed by Apple with 235.7 million shipments and a market share of 17.4%. The Cupertino manufacturer registered an increase of 15.9% compared to the same period last year, when it had 203.4 million shipments.

Xiaomi is the one that grows the most in 2021, but it does not go beyond 3rd place

Xiaomi recorded the highest growth in the TOP 5, with 29.3%. It registered 147.8 million shipments in 2020, having had 191 million in 2021. This represents a change in market share from 11.5% to 14.1%.

It is followed by Oppo and Vivo, which now have a market share of 9.9% and 9.5%, respectively. The decrease is seen in the group of “other manufacturers that a year ago were responsible for 450.5 million shipments, and registered 394.3 million in 2021 (a drop of 12.5%).

Speaking only of the fourth quarter of 2021, Apple managed to be the best-selling manufacturer thanks to the iPhone 13. It registers 84.9 million shipments in this period, although it has fallen by 2.9% compared to the same period of 2020. Samsung and Xiaomi close the podium, having been the only ones to grow in this group.
