Ross Taylor IPL: Former New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor has made a sensational revelation. He has claimed that he was slapped by a Rajasthan Royals owner during the 2011 IPL season. The former Kiwi great has made this revelation in his autobiography, Ross Taylor: Black and White. He has written on it that this incident happened after losing the match against Kings XI Punjab.

Stuff.co.nz publishes a portion of what Taylor wrote in her book: “We had to chase 195, I went out for a duck. After this, all the people from the team, support staff and management arrived at the bar located on the top floor of the hotel. There was also Warney (Shane Warne) with Liz Hurley. A Royals boss told me, ‘Ross, we don’t give you crores of rupees to go out for a duck,’ and he slapped me across the face three or four times. He was laughing, even though those slaps weren’t hard, but I don’t think it was just part of the drama and the laughter. In view of the situation at that time, I did not pursue this matter. But I can’t imagine this happening in any professional gaming setting.”

Rajasthan Royals have yet to issue any statement regarding this revelation from Ross Taylor.

Taylor was a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for three years, from 2008 to 2010. He played one season for Rajasthan in 2011, for which the Royals bought him for $1 million. The former New Zealand batsman has written in his book that he better not have left the RCB.

Taylor wrote: “Going for a million dollars was fantastic, in the long run it would have been better for me if RCB had offered me $950,000. If I had done this I would have stayed with him for the fourth year as well. No room for emotion in IPL. Only long racehorses have preference here. If I had stayed in just one franchise, my IPL career could have been longer. But by doing so, I wouldn’t be able to play with great players like Virender Sehwag, Shane Warne, Mahela Jayawardene and Yuvraj Singh.

Ross Taylor spent just one year in his IPL career with the Royals. He then played for the Delhi Daredevils and then the Pune Super Giants. He scored 1017 runs in his career-long 55 IPL matches.
