Ronny Mauricio is very clear about his two main objectives for the next winter fall baseball tournament that begins on the 27th: to continue working and contribute to the 23rd crown of the Tigres del Licey.
"That’s what I’m here for. Keep working on every aspect of the game and supporting the team to win the 23rd title"said the tall shortstop after arriving at club training at the New York Yankees facilities.
Mauricio is considered the third best prospect in the New York Mets organization for which he hit 20 home runs during the summer between Advanced Class A and Double A.
"I appreciate the opportunity that the Licey gives me to be with the team. The dream of every Dominican player is to play in his country. I feel very good since veterans, those with a lot of experience talk to you and you learn"added the two-handed hitter, 6-3 tall and 20 years old.
He was inducted into the Eastern League Baseball America 10 Lowest Prospects list and was selected by managers as the most exciting player, the best defensive shortstop and the infielder with the best arm.
In 108 games (100 in Advanced Class A) he hit .248, but to his 20 home runs, he added 15 doubles, five triples, 58 runs, 64 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. One point better is his strikeout-to-walk ratio (112-26).
"It was a season of a lot of learning, of ups and downs, but I feel very satisfied with the effort that I put in", adds the native of the province of San Pedro de Macorís.
He exhorted the fans to give all their support this year to the glorious blue team to accompany them in the conquest of the 23rd championship.
