As reported by the Paris police prefect on Wednesday to the CNews channel, the rioters set fire to 42 vehicles, as well as construction machinery.

It has also ensured that the 350 police officers and gendarmes deployed overnight prevented looting of shops and public buildings.

“The device will last as long as necessary,” said Núñez regarding the maintenance of the planned police deployment in the coming days.

The prefect acknowledged that they expected riots after what happened yesterday morning in Nanterre, alluding to the death of Naël, a young man with a criminal record who was driving without a license and who, after being stopped by a couple of police officers, tried to escape with the vehicle and was fatally shot.

homicide investigation

A video of the events recorded by a remote witness shows how one of the agents, a 38-year-old brigadier, pointed his gun directly at the minor next to the driver’s window while the other spoke to him on the same side.

The shot occurred at the moment the car was accelerating, without directly threatening the integrity of the police officers, which, however, was what the policeman who shot, who is in custody, and his colleague alleged at first.

Justice has opened two investigations, one for voluntary homicide committed by a person in charge of public authority, which directly concerns the responsibility of that brigadier.

The second, for skipping a police control, referring to the behavior of the deceased young man.

This procedure has provoked the indignation of the victim’s family, through the mouth of the lawyer Jennifer Cambla, she recalled that in France a dead person cannot be tried.

Complaint against the agents

In statements this Wednesday to the France Info radio station, the lawyer assured that the family intends to file a complaint for forgery, considering that the agents involved in the incident lied in their first statement.

According to the lawyer, the reaction of the police was “absolutely illegitimate” and “does not fall within the framework of legitimate defense” because “feeling threatened is not enough to shoot a bullet in the chest.”

The event has generated numerous political reactions, especially from some left-wing officials who have denounced the large number of deaths at the hands of the police who try to rely on legitimate defense, particularly when a motorist skips a checkpoint.

The star of the French soccer team Kylian Mbappé also reacted, writing about it in a message on his Twitter account: “France hurts me. An unacceptable situation. I am with the family and those close to Naël, this little angel who has left too soon”.
