Reaves breathes air into the Lakers

The lakers they can breathe a little. In a day in which he has not favored any result more than his, he can do it. At this point in the season, and with the suffocation of being in the West’s fight for places four through tenth, he seems almost grateful that it is so. No more. Just catch some air to continue the race. They are now the ones who occupy the last position that entitles them to play the playoffs and with that they must be content, waiting for the Jazz or the Pelicans to finish them off by the end of the season. After the stab received at the last second against the Mavericks, a direct rival, anything that is suffering but not so much makes the parish pure ecstasy.

Because there are no games won before starting. The teams without aspirations now, with the positions more or less on track, throw themselves into surprises. Tell the Rockets, with the Lakers first and the Pelicans later, or the Spurs, beating the conference-leading Nuggets. In the East there are the Magic down there, in 13th place, without being definitively down but with slim chances, a team with the potential to be the one to sign a job like the ones mentioned above. The Floridians faced the Lakers with that in mind and they came close to completing the mission. 111-105 in a score that was defined in the last two minutes. Further crunch-time it was difficult. Austin Reaves, completing his best game in the NBA so far, was the one who set the tone; he scored 35 points (1/4 on three-pointers, 8/13 on two-pointers and 16/18 on free throws) in 30 minutes, as a substitute and with a +25 in his game slot.

The magic they stayed true to their role, since they are judges of the competition in any appointment that they go to, and they stayed close to the auction. They opened their minds when they returned from the break, with a comeback start in the third quarter that was completed in the last minutes of the evening. Only and only Austin was able to stop that inertia. Jamahl Mosley’s men, with countless young talent on their squad, faced one of the most inexperienced and also courageous on the local team. Reaves, the one they called Kobe but nicknamed him a redneck because he grew up on a farm in Arkansas, raised his voice in the courtyard of the Crypto Arena to give the Lakers a victory that saves them, due to timing and timing, from something much worse.

Of the Wagners, Moritz did not play, the one who did know the house laker, but Franz did it and he was the best: 21 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The same score was signed by Paolo Banchero, number one in the last draft, who had to dance with Hachimura or Gabriel on the floor (and also with the referees, who indicated a technique 25 seconds from the end). The Angelenos punished what was a very obvious mismatch when it came to shooting: 78 to 102 in shots from one team to another, without so much correction factor in fouls and losses. The Magic started the second half ten points behind and made the rubber, zooming in and out, during that third set to get right into the minds of the Lakers in the fourth. A three-pointer by Cole Anthony from a center position made it 101-101 with 2:39 to go and all the bad guys entered the bodies of the local players except for one. He sophomore Austin Reaves put all the weight on his back and scored all the ten points that were left. He shook his pulse in a couple of free throws and that’s it, everything else was to put his team to win after two straight losses that hurt like never before. Acrobatic penetrations, millimeter aim, shots with contact and, above all, heart, the shopping list of the ’15’ from Los Angeles in another troubled night by Anthony Davis (15 + 11, yes, but with a 6/15 to the basket ).
