Quantum Racing shines with little wind and assaults the lead

Quantum Racing luce con poco viento y asalta el liderato

No wind, no regatta. This is one of the maxims of sailing and that is why this Thursday, in Baiona, the starting honk of the third day of the ABANCA 52 SUPER SERIES Baiona Sailing Week more than one hour. After 14:00 the nine T52 (Provezza fixed his backstay and competed after the white day on Wednesday) made a clean start, but after a few meters the Regatta Committee declared it null due to the instability of the wind. As the minutes passed, everything stabilized and two tasks could be played without any problem with breezes between 11 and 15 knots. And there Quantum Racing shone ahead of the rest of the fleet. The American boat signed a third and a first place that served to establish itself in the new leader of the 52 SUPERSERIES with 16 points. Platoon is second with 18 and Phoenix, who lived a day to forget (eighth and sixth) dropped from first place to third with 22 points.

Platoon, who is two points behind Quantum Racing, the leader, continues to show very good manners in navigation and thanks to a fourth place and a second this Thursday he is second in the general classification. Yes indeed, the first moto of the day was a ‘ride’ for the Gladiator. Good start, better navigation and victory for a British boat that had not won a heat in 52 SUPERSERIES since 2018. The joy could not be hidden and Xabi Fernandezcrew member of the Gladiator, explained that “although we did not make changes, the truth is that the boat was much better this Thursday. We make profitable the training of the week and I believe that the owners sail so little that they improve day by day. We made a great start and when you’re ahead everything is much easier. In the second round we wanted to do the same, but we couldn’t because Interlodge closed the site for us, we left late and got an eighth, which is not a good result but the positive part is that we were in the fight”.

Already in the second round, the great winner was Quantum Racing. He gave his rivals no chance, coming out accurately from the pin, above the fleet, and sailing down the right side of the field and took the win 30 seconds ahead of second-place Platoon. “We were able to read the conditions well and we knew what to do. Happy to be at the top of the standings, but this bay is very difficult“, commented Luca Calabrese, Quantum strategist. This Friday will be the penultimate day of the ABANCA 52 SUPER SERIES Baiona Sailing Week with two new sleeves. When they finish, eight will have already been played (the maximum is ten) and there will only be one last day left, Saturday, a fast-paced one to decide the first champion of the 52 SUPERSERIES season.
